Uganda National Mining Company (UNMC) has launched its Five-Year Strategic and Investment Plan (SIP) for FY2025/26–2029/30, setting out the Company’s strategic direction for strengthening Uganda’s participation in the mineral sector.
The plan provides a framework for strategic investment, development of mineral assets, value addition, financial sustainability and national participation across Uganda’s mineral value chains.
Launched during UNMC’s first Annual General Meeting, the SIP outlines six strategic priorities, including managing State commercial interests, investing in strategic mineral value chains, strengthening financial sustainability, increasing stakeholder and local participation, developing talent, and strengthening governance and institutional capacity.
Key initiatives under the plan include the revitalisation of Kilembe Mines, exploration of critical minerals and development of regional mineral processing hubs.
With an estimated investment requirement of UGX 3.64 trillion over the plan period, the SIP provides a roadmap for project development, investment prioritisation and resource mobilisation.
The plan marks an important step in UNMC’s development as Uganda’s State commercial vehicle in the mining and minerals sector, with a focus on transforming mineral potential into productive assets, competitive value chains and sustainable national value.
