The Uganda National Mining Company (UNMC) is a statutory company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda. Established on April 25, 2024, under the Mining and Minerals Act, CAP 159, UNMC manages Uganda's commercial participation in the mineral industry - domestically and internationally.

  • Marbale mine
    Moroto Clinker & Cement Production

    Location: Moroto District
    Mineral: Limestone and industrial minerals

    The Moroto project represents an opportunity to develop Uganda’s industrial mineral resources for construction and manufacturing value chains.

    Development of clinker and cement production can support domestic industrial capacity while creating opportunities for employment, local enterprise participation and value addition.

  • Marble mine
    Sukulu Phosphate & Steel Project

    Location: Tororo District
    Minerals: Phosphate and associated industrial minerals

    The Sukulu project presents opportunities for mineral processing and industrial development, particularly through the utilisation of phosphate and associated mineral resources.

    Its strategic importance extends beyond extraction, with potential to support value addition, industrial inputs and downstream economic activity.

  • Marble Mine
    Makuutu Rare Earth Project

    Location: Bugiri, Iganga and Mayuge Districts
    Mineral: Rare Earth Elements

    The Makuutu project represents an opportunity to participate in the development of rare earth resources that are increasingly important to global technology, energy and advanced manufacturing value chains.

    UNMC’s participation reflects the strategic importance of developing Uganda’s mineral resources beyond traditional commodities and positioning the country for emerging mineral opportunities.
