Advancing Mineral Beneficiation and Industrial Development in Tororo

The Sukulu Phosphate & Steel Project in Tororo represents an important opportunity to transform Uganda’s mineral resources into value-added industrial products. The project is centred on the development of the Sukulu mineral resource, which contains phosphate, iron and other associated mineral resources.

The integrated development is designed to support phosphate beneficiation, fertiliser production and steel manufacturing, alongside supporting industrial facilities. This approach provides an opportunity to move beyond the extraction of minerals towards processing and manufacturing within Uganda.

For UNMC, Sukulu forms part of Uganda’s broader opportunity to develop strategic mineral assets and strengthen value across the mineral value chain. Its potential extends beyond mineral production to agriculture, manufacturing, employment, local supply chains and industrial development.

The project reflects a central element of Uganda’s mineral development opportunity: turning mineral resources into productive assets, value-added products and wider economic value.

From phosphate and iron resources to fertiliser, steel and industrial value, Sukulu represents the potential of mineral beneficiation to support Uganda’s transformation.
