Advancing Mineral-Based Industrial Development in Karamoja

The Moroto Clinker & Cement Production project, developed by Yaobai Cement, represents an important investment in Uganda’s mineral-based industrial development. Located in Nanduget, Moroto District, the facility is designed to process locally available raw materials into clinker and cement for domestic and regional markets.

Phase One of the facility was commissioned in April 2026 with a 6,000-tonne-per-day clinker production line. The wider investment is expected to strengthen Uganda’s domestic clinker supply, reduce reliance on imported clinker and create opportunities for employment, local businesses and regional trade.

For UNMC, the project reflects the broader opportunity to transform Uganda’s mineral resources into productive industrial assets and strengthen value across the mineral value chain. It demonstrates how mineral-based investment can support processing, manufacturing, industrial capacity and sustainable economic value.

From mineral resources to industrial production, Moroto demonstrates the potential to create greater value from Uganda’s mineral endowment.
