Building Uganda’s State Mining Company for the Future
Uganda has the mineral resources. The opportunity now is to build the capacity, assets and value chains that can turn those resources into lasting economic value.
UNMC is being built to play a central commercial role in that journey — investing in strategic mineral opportunities, developing productive assets, building strong partnerships and increasing the value Uganda captures from its mineral resources.
UNMC’s Future Role
A Strategic State Commercial Participant
UNMC’s intended future role is to become a strong, commercially driven State mining company with the capability to participate actively across Uganda’s mineral value chains.
This means moving beyond simply holding State interests to actively identifying opportunities, investing strategically, developing assets, managing partnerships and creating commercial value.
A Developer of Productive Mineral Assets
UNMC will seek to help move viable mineral opportunities from potential to production.
Working with capable technical and financial partners, the Company will support the development of productive assets that can generate commercial returns, employment, industrial activity and government revenue.
A Driver of Value Addition
UNMC will increasingly focus on opportunities beyond mineral extraction.
The ambition is to support processing, beneficiation, refining and downstream development, enabling Uganda to participate in higher-value stages of mineral value chains and strengthen domestic industrial capacity.
A Platform for Strategic Partnerships
UNMC will build partnerships that bring together capital, technology, technical expertise, infrastructure and markets.
These relationships will be essential to developing complex mineral projects and positioning Uganda competitively within regional and global mineral value chains.
A Catalyst for National Participation
As UNMC grows, it will seek to strengthen opportunities for Ugandan businesses, professionals, suppliers and institutions to participate in the mineral economy.
National participation will be supported through enterprise opportunities, employment, skills development and technology transfer.
Our Strategic Direction
To realise this future role, UNMC will focus on:
Building a strong mineral portfolio
Investing in opportunities with commercial and strategic potential.
Developing productive assets
Advancing viable projects towards development, production and operational performance.
Strengthening commercial capability
Building the systems, expertise and governance required to manage a growing investment portfolio.
Promoting responsible development
Balancing commercial performance with environmental, social, safety and governance responsibilities.
From Potential to Impact
UNMC’s intended pathway is:
Mineral Potential → Strategic Investment → Productive Assets → Value Addition → Competitive Industries → Sustainable National Value
The ambition is to build a commercially strong, strategically relevant and responsible State mining company capable of helping Uganda realise greater and lasting value from its mineral resources.
