May 9, 2025 | Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala. The National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U) participated as the Strategic Technology Partner at the Africa Artificial Intelligence Summit (AAIS) 2025, held from May 8–9, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The summit brought together government leaders, innovators, and global experts to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping Africa’s digital future.
Delivering a keynote address, Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director of NITA-U, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to ethical, inclusive, and scalable AI adoption.
“Artificial Intelligence presents a powerful opportunity for Africa to leapfrog into the future. At NITA-U, we’re proud to support platforms like AAIS 2025 that advance responsible, inclusive, and scalable AI adoption,” said Dr. Mugasa.
He highlighted the ongoing development of Uganda’s National AI Framework under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP-GovNet), which will guide the ethical integration of AI across government operations.
The summit also followed the recent signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NITA-U and Presight, a UAE-based AI and data analytics firm. The partnership will support the development of AI-powered, citizen-centric digital services for Uganda.
NITA-U continues to lead efforts to strengthen Uganda’s AI ecosystem through:
- Development of a National Artificial Intelligence Framework
- Support for AI and fintech innovation sandboxes, in partnership with the Bank of Uganda
- Promotion of secure, interoperable, and inclusive e-government services
Uganda’s active engagement at AAIS 2025 positions the country as a rising regional leader in responsible AI innovation and reinforces NITA-U’s role in advancing digital transformation for national development.
